"How do you know that?"
I was sitting with my family at the table, and I had just made a remark about a person I didn’t know.
When someone at the table asked me, “How do you know that?”
I realized I “knew” because of what someone had said to me. I never verified the information myself. I simply assumed it to be true.
What was a small example of everyday living as a human is a great example of our own ignorance of the frameworks through which we view reality. How quick our brain is to price together "truths" about the world.
We end up with views that we never checked, assuming them to hold superior value over others views.
I mean what has built your views?
How do you know what you know?
And do you know the mechanics of your knowing?
The thing with our own views is that we don’t see them as clearly as we see, for example, opposing views.
Our views don’t tend to show up as views, but rather as truths of how things “are” and how the world “is,” but not as another possible view on reality.
To operate every day, you need to assume, you need to make predictions, and you need to fill gaps of knowing with the most likely thing that makes sense given the frame you have for reality.
Otherwise, reality would become unworkable for us. We decode way too little information to constantly reassess what’s true.
However, when unchecked, you start to build views that are really not conducive to your goals, your intentions, and are far removed from what’s true and real.
Especially in leadership, you can’t assume to make great calls if you just inherit the assumptions of your upbringing, or assume that people will always act according to what they say, or that your pitch was great because your mother said so.
You need to be able to look beyond your paradigm, be able to see your paradigm (worldview and self-view), and choose the most appropriate one for the situation.
Otherwise, your views are created by hearsay, by experts you have never checked as accurate, or by the hidden agenda of someone who looks like your friend from high school, which you therefore trust blindly.
You have tremendous power to become more conscious, more aware of all the things influencing your decision-making. If you want to play the games of life, and even be able to create your own games, awareness of these mechanics is non-negotiable.
In our 1-year education for leaders, founders, and growth-minded individuals, we will walk through these mechanics, giving you access to freedom and awareness to be a leader, be aware, be true to what you most want in life, and say no to unconscious mechanics driving you.
